NFL to broadcast in 3D!!!

Wow. Saw this WSJ article on ShellyPalmer’s MediaBytes today.

“Next week, a game between the San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders will be broadcast live in 3-D to theaters in Los Angeles, New York and Boston. It is a preliminary step on what is likely a long road to any regular 3-D broadcasts of football games.”

They tried 3D in 2004 (picture above), but it really reminds me of the NFL attempting to use matrix-style EyeVision in the 2001 Super Bowl.

Here’s hoping this one is more successful!  Now…how do I get a ticket??

(more examples of EyeVision here and here and an explanation of the technology here)
